Alluring Quiet

I whisper to the empty pillow that you once held

tighter than you could ever hold another person,

and remember that you require quiet at night

so I keep the rest of my sentence to myself.

Tighter than you could ever hold another person

my lips are sealed so that I do not make a sound,

I keep the rest of my sentence to myself

in hopes that the silence will lure you quickly home.

My lips are sealed so that I do not make a sound

as I hear the constant dripping of the falling rain,

and hoping that the silence will lure you quickly home

I walk outside to blow the clouds far away.

I hear the constant dripping of the falling rain

that suppresses any other sounds from being heard

as I walk outside to make the clouds go away

I realize that you fell asleep on the couch

I suppress any other sounds from being heard

in remembering that you require quiet at night

until I realize that you fell asleep on the couch

after whispering to the empty pillow that you once held.
