I caught her digging
graves
one night
suspended by
the chill
& all that was
haunting

she never knew I
was there
& if I gave a rough
breath she became
lost in the
fog

I didn't know who
or what
she was trying
to bury
but she laughed the
whole time
& sang songs about
the sea

she kept
reminding herself
to never drink
beer
before liquor
