I'm
flipping a coin
for the east
& the
west

stuck in the
middle
in the midwestern
agony
& I'm not even
ready for
sleep

I've only been to South
Carolina
as far as palm trees go
but I'd love to see Florida
& even California
someday

I feel like I was born for
them
if only to parade
around
half-naked
with my hair down
& twisted in one
hand

a drink in the other

will you still be around for
last call?

we never run on the same time

I'm not even tired
just tired
of
the plains
& the way it feels cold
& looks gray
for far too
long

not even tired
so I'll sing myself
away
