NESCIO
NESCIO
She gazes into
her own eyes.
Applies her make up
painstakingly
to her reflection
this "mirror her"
wearing the fuchsia lipstick
the cobalt blue eyeliner.
She steps out of
her reflection
leaving this made-up-person
trapped in glass.
She laughs.
"So, this is the me
that others...see?"
The door clicks shut.
Footsteps descend the stars.
She journeys to
the world
wearing only
her naked face.
NESCIO is the Latin for "I don't know."
The Romans actually had a verb "nescire" meaning "not to know"
