'My train was early
your taxi was late
I wonder how  things would be now
If I'd not had the patience to wait.
If I'd just sent a message
Sorry but it's not me, it's you
I can't hang around
I have a lot to do
You'd have yelled and cried
I'd have said goodbye
You'd have begged me to come back
I may have turned around
And wiped your eyes
And held the love I felt for you
A little further back.
But I waited cos I'm soft  like that
I'd never let you down
I'd never let you ever feel
That love was lost not found

I didn't do it then
I wouldn't do it now

But it's passed us by, the chance for proof
Flown thru the window out of reach  across a smokey roof

My train was early
Your taxi was late
And  after all you've put me thru
I'm still so  glad
I had the  patience to wait.

I did it then

So I'll do it now'
