I need you like a cigarette;
that 3 am drag that makes it all okay,
or at least, helps me pretend.
Breathe you in and breathe it out.
Tar in my lungs,
Nicotine kisses,
The taste of you lingering,
for minutes and hours.
Stare at the embers,
and move on to another one.
Watch the memories burn,
and the ashes disperse.
Punctured veins,
scarred terrain,
trace them with your lips,
bitter-sweet and so unreal
Breathe you in,
breathe out the pain,
repeat until it all ends.
Your slow poison,
taking it all away.
