We have entered into chaos, you and I
yes, the world has slipped through our fingers,
it has been dashed across the water,
leaving shards of ice, where warm things once were.

Cold and empty we have become,
like a harrowing wind on an October day.
All things have grown ancient between us,
the leaves  yellow, and fall into darkness.

This eternal night clutches our soul!
There is no escape from these human things.
We have no Cave to walk from into light,
we are an island in a pond, leave and we die

But who are we to mumble? Did we not know this would come?
We painted our desires too pretty and petty.
Our pride was both our ladder and noose.
We knew this, but still we climbed.

“For ascend we must,” you said, “it is our nature!”
I believed you, you son of satan.
I took the plunge into the depths of my ego…
Progress ensnared me, ambition was ripe and enticing.

It was a lie! I realize now, you tricked me.
You vile serpent. Love of self, you told me was my
salvation, my fulfillment, my happiness… Now I am trapped,
the key to my cage has melted in carnal desire.

Who knew fire could be so cold.

I once asked who you were, the answer was silence.
We are broken into two, you and I.
The mirror shows the face I keep,
but not the ruin I am.

My soul grieves for the waste of my body:
Me, Myself, My Person, wrecked.
