When we were together

You made me feel as if...
The world was sharper
My heart larger
My smile brighter.

You made me feel as if...
I was wrong
I didn't deserve you
I wasn't worth anything.

You made me melt
As you glared at me.

You made my heart pound
As you yelled at me.

You made me breathless
As you choked me.

When my front door opens
I brace.
When I walk back from work
I look over my shoulder.
When I have money
I hide it.

I will live in fear
Remembering how you smashed my head into the floor
Remembering how you cried in my arms asking me to never leave you.
Remembering how you winked at me in the courtroom.

And you will only get a fine.
This was inspired by my now-ex who will be sentenced next month for assault and will probably only get a fine.
