Don't Blink

Don’t Blink To the people who have never watched the sunset, this is for you Find a nice spot to look out into the distance facing the west Whether you’re watching with someone or not, watch, listen, be amazed If its still there, wait, it’ll go down The place you go doesn’t matter, all that matters is that you can see it If you hear your friends talking and laughing say to yourself ‘I’ll be right there.’ As for the kids playing across the street, don’t mind them either, they help the mood too As it starts to go down watch carefully, clear your head, focus on the sun Don’t holler to your friends and don’t watch the kids play, don’t even blink If you blink it might be gone before you know it The sounds of the kids playing turns into birds singing and your friends laughing turns into a memory rather than wishing you could be with them Before you realize all this had happened the sun is gone The clouds are turning darker shades of pink and orange You don’t want to leave even after its down If you don’t do this that’s fine, but if you do, show someone, tell them ‘hey, that kid that read that poem on stage was right’ But don’t blink, it might be gone soon
