Gott In Himmel

The shell burst lit up the chilled night air

it crackled and boomed as men went topside and roared their fears away.Meanwhile cannon boomed and spirits rose by thousands to quietly pay homage .

to folly incarnate. He sat with arms folded as he nodded through it all high above the despicable scene.

he tired and retired  to a century of rest did he.

as we ground the face of creation to  fodder and ash.

Gott in Himmel.

abandoned the trenches and fences and rotting killing fields then turned on his heels in disgust.

he walked away from us on that day as millions would pay in blood and pain. The war to end all wars would resurface in two score.
