I do not pretend to think
That I could attract the attentions
Of such a man as whom could love me
I do not pretend to know
That such a man could exist
As to see right through to my soul
I do not pretend to believe
That I could ever be happy
For I am destined for loneliness
I do not pretend at all
To be one of the lucky women
To gain the attentions of a gentleman
For I do not believe one exists
And I do not believe that if he did
He would ever, ever choose me
