Get an education no matter the cost they say.
And everything will be ok they say.
Pain is a part of life we all endure they say.
But, they don't say what the sacrifices are.
The people we disconnect with when buried in our books.
Friends always giving us sympathetic looks.
Our family becoming strangers that we hardly know.
Hearing the worried voices through the phone.
Our lives in the moment becoming so numb.
Making it our goal to just make it past this one.
I want to live my life for me and not for them.
It's my life after all, so shouldn't that count?
Writing midterm papers up all night.
Forgetting moms birthday slowly losing sight.
After all, it'll all pay off, right?
When these years are done we will find light.
For now it's time to continue losing the fight.
Because getting an education is important no matter the cost.
Somehow it will make up for whatever is lost.
