As early twilight steals the day
welcoming hearths with warmth bestow
casting shadows upon the walls
as firelight flickers spread their glow.

Searching for faces in glimmering embers
chestnuts arrayed before the flame
he worries about that crack in the window
the little boy thinks of who to blame.
