Strings
A faceless man, sitting in his throne like chair...
smirking
as he looks down at the chessboard.
He moves a pawn into position to be taken
A man struck down overseas by enemy soldiers
his comrades collect his body after the battle
The man then looks at his companion,
the companion looks back calmly
and moves his rook to protect the Queen
A man barricades the door at his home to protect his sister
Her arms decorated with bruises, her lip is split, tears in her eyes.
Her drunk boyfriend hitting the door, screaming and cursing
The man folds his hands
then moves a knight to take a different rook
The police break down a criminal’s door,
dragging him away in cuffs
You see, we’re all just pieces on a board, puppets controlled by strings.
The strings are faith, love, hate, religion, politics
The question is…
Who is controlling us?
And are we winning the game?
