My lips were stretched in a smile,
Forever and always.
It’s all they ever knew.
And then you happened, life happened.
And they learnt so much more …
The annoyance of a frown
The pressure of a purse
The pain of a bite
The quiver of a tremble
The avalanche of vile words
The taste of tears
The amour of blood;
But my lips were wise,
They remained loyal
To that forever-always smile.
Even then, it was all they really knew.
