for granted.
Piper Johnson Jun 2011
How numb are we to our existence
That the everyday melts
Into a melodious wave
Crashing and swelling so,
So predictably.
The bricks blur and
The sun sets before
We can remember it rising.
And we look to leave
Strive to escape the banality
That is the compass of our life.
The comfort of discomfort
Spawns an egg in the crater of our brain.
Nature alters the hue of another world
We see through a biased lens
The peacefully rolling hills
The staunch mountains
The tempting lust of azure water.
But we all see the same moon.
A different angle and a slight of hand
But it’s still the same moon.
Why isn’t it beautiful here?

Limits.

You can take it all away from me
Unknot the stress
Carefully pulling apart the ribbon
That binds the destruction.
And then you tie it back up
Twisting and furling
Raveling into a broiling stew
A turmoil of contradictions
And we are back where we started.
Nothing ever is solved,
just thrown off the axis
but gravity will always come back to haunt us
magnetic orbs of chaos
stability only ever a fragile illusion
patiently waiting to implode.
We will try and float on
For how much longer?

The noise slows down around us
And I don’t know you
And you don’t know me
But your lips are all I can see
And your hand is heavy on my back
The heat between our bodies
The pressure rising and the water overflowing
Suddenly you’re vulnerable
I trace the arc you draw along my forehead
Sliding my hair over and
I open my eyes to graceful green marbles
Staring down at me
You lift me up and breathe hard
Suddenly you’re inside me
And I imagine for a second
This moment means more than tonight
And that ******* you is beautiful
And I don’t have to be scared for tomorrow
And this can feel good and I won’t feel bad
But when you wake
I’m just another girl
And when I wake
You’re just another wish

The chill danced
Playfully through the air, gaily
Enticing
Our bodies closer
Flames surged
Igniting my veins; lips
Coated in sparks.
A few lonely stars stare down
At us.  Alone.
I can feel the world turn
And the back of your neck
Is perfect in my hands.
Suddenly
I know I am close to finding.
Slate eyes whisper back
Wandering.
I know you aren’t there.
I just wish
Want you to know.

Your eyes sink back, hiding
Tempting
Warring between blue and grey
Dark pearls in a glaze of white

The sun sprinkles light
Over the tints of magic in the sidewalk
And I am painfully aware
Of your arm around my shoulder
And it beckons for rain
Warm, heavy rain
Washing rain
A flood to drown our essence

But I can see that sun
And the glitters of the sidewalk
That reflect in your steely eyes
And maybe it’s because you know I like the rain too much
Maybe it’s because I’m already drowning
And maybe it’s because you’re already floating
That you aren’t so aware of my shoulder
