Paul McSherry Sep 2013
she returns to her dream city
where she blossomed
and we trail behind her
her family
it's all talk of remember
and where are they now

our little one given license to stay up all night
why do they eat so late dad?
what are they saying?

tapas at midnight
beer all the time
water's essential
and so is the wine

there's talk of old lovers
there's talk of change
talk of the the politics
and the city rearranged

it's hot ****** hot
almost too hot to bear
the fountains run all day
there's solace in there

but up on the roof
lies the breeze
with it's welcoming arms
I play guitar for the stars
open tuning in G

I gather them here
all that matters to me
my beautiful children
my beautiful wife
I sing to the stars
in thanks for this life

be careful what you say
Paul McSherry Sep 2013
be careful what you say
be careful what you do
be careful where you go
there’s someone watching you

a whisper in the dark
a murmur from the heart
a secret of the mind
the trails you leave behind

you thought that no one knew
that window with the view
they’ve got you on the wire
they know what you desire

be careful what you say
be careful what you do
be careful where you go
there’s someone watching you

what you say
where you go
what you do
where’s someone watching you

the satellite still spins
recording all your sins
the days when you were free
they’re ancient history

the knock at 2am
there’s no escaping then
they’ve got you in their web
they’ve got everything you said

be careful what you say
be careful what you do
be careful where you go
there’s someone watching you

what you say
where you go
what you do
there’s someone watching you

Monochrome
Paul McSherry Sep 2013
talk talk talk
from the drug and not the person
how long must I endure
to get my poison
roses are red
violets are blue
god made us beautiful
what happened to you
monochrome monochrome
all I see is monochrome

this must be the place
a carpark near the cemetery
how much how good
is there more to come
roses are red
violets are black
you’d look better
with as knife in your back
monochrome monochrome
all I see is monochrome

roses are red
violets are white
take your medicine to sleep at night
the priest departs
the acolytes give praise
worship your god for his gift of golden haze
monochrome monochrome
all I see is monochrome

The inevitability of it all
Paul McSherry Sep 2010
Ah the inevitability of it all
Made a cup of tea… teabag broke
toast… burnt it
milk in the cereal was off
shower water went cold
Couldn’t find my jeans…in the wash
Had to wear cords
Missed my train
Late for work
Boss NOT happy
Stella cancelled dinner said she had to work late
Charlie rang to see if I was going to the footy
He said Stella said she was going
When???????????? I asked
Just a minute ago he said
Ah the inevitability of it all

Missed my deadline I was preoccupied
Called and had it out with her
******* she said
You can ******* too
Missed my train
Home late
Checked mail
Stella sent me a ticket to the footy….
A surprise she said
Ah the inevitability of it all

Married her on a Sunday
Had our first child on a Monday
Divorced on a Tuesday
There’s got to be a better way
Joined online dating scheme
Now I lie with panache
And she sure knows how to tease me
And please me…
Ah the inevitability of it all
