Me for me

Me for Me

For me,

a knee knelt toward sobriety

bone to ground,

will to silence.

For me, for you, for us.

For me,

I slew my ego

and lay it down beside me,

still warm, no longer ruling.

For us,

I became calm like water learns to be

not weak,

just no longer fighting the shore.

For us,

I learned what gentle means

when strength chooses quiet.

For us,

I learned to love you

in a way the world never rehearsed.

For you,

I ran to cuddle,

not to escape.

For you,

I sat to be close,

not to conquer.

For you,

I saw a partner,

not a reflection,

not a prize.

For me,

I tried everything

and failed at one thing only.

For me,

I failed at lust.

For me,

I look at my lust with disgust

a hunger that pretends to be love.

For this monster,

I failed to slay it for you.

For I am consumed by it,

and still,

this monster

is the way I love.

So for me,

for you,

for us,

this is a poem

from a monster

trying to run from himself

and learning

he must walk instead.
