doe

your soft doe eyes didn't see me in time

i came through like a meteor

burned right through your vulnerable

i know it's not right, my dear

my angel, my baby, i didn't see you in time

didn't swerve to spare your life for mine

my sweet little one, i swear it looks like you're asleep

on the side of the street, in the ditch where you dream

i didn't hold your hand as you bled out, i ran

i'm sorry, my love, i just ran

the road won’t forget what i tried to outrun

the trees saw me holding the smoking gun

it hums with the guilt of what i became

and every mile marker is a witness to my shame

counting the distance between me and the blame
