A Mother’s Love

by Starry_Skies

A mother’s love is a beautiful thing Until it isn’t Until it means pain Pain that cuts and bleeds You give her your heart A heart she created You are a being she made She carried and nursed you So why does she abhor you? Why are her words coated with disgust? You were cursed from the start Destined to live as a writhing, vile creature A creature she created yet hates All you want is to be held and loved All you want is a listening ear Someone to look to for protection You instinctively yearn for her Arms raised, you run to her Sunlight coating the day Glitter on her face How quickly it all changes You didn’t anticipate the storm behind her mask Your arms pushed down and away That wretched smile fills her face How old were you when you realized? How young were you when you saw? Why did we have to realize That a mothers love isn’t what it once was
