bird

the moment

before

the claw

does not let go

the wire

does not let go

the claw

when the wing

is needed

we see

the need

to leave

the bird

does not know

the wing

knows

the branch

the air

holds

the small

thing

the sky

say

human

think of

leaving

what carries

what stays

the body

does not choose

nothing

wants

to fly

the wing

is just

the part

that holds

the part

that never learned

to hold

flight

a beetle

moves

we don’t see

the pause

the pause

is the claw

we see

escape

the bird

is not

the bird

the bird

is the claw

does not let go

escape

what was

not

sky
