Intro – intimate, almost whispered, breathy, close-mic
An endless screeching tone, now in both ears,
Don’t know the solace of silence for years
Verse 1
A billion cicadas that will not die,
Along with high-pitched sirens ever near,
Symphonies translated by a kazoo,
Forever shrieking in each ear.
Verse 2
Inoperable tumor in my ear,
Genetic hearing loss on my dad's side,
The world in silence has long been my fear,
The joy of music slowly fading, singing too.
Verse 2
Like the vibrant colors of a rainbow,
Stretching over all the oceans of Earth,
Fading to gray, dissolving into shadows,
As hearing loss slowly takes its course.
Verse 3
My world slowly fading to a shrill hum,
The babbling of a brook, a child's sweet laugh,
A canary's joyful song of courtship,
I fear at some point will simply be gone.
Verse 4
A gentle autumn breeze rustling dry leaves,
A clock ticking away remaining time,
All but drowned out save for their memory,
With hearing aids no longer sublime.
Outro – restrained emotion
I still make songs hoping others enjoy,
The joy of music illness won’t destroy.
