Love Can Bear the Blame

by Brody_Blue

In a dream I heard a voice Come from the very place That I had long been going to, Contracting time and space. When I awoke, to my dismay, The voice was nowhere near, With every mile in between Compounding doubt and fear. But do I dare myself declare To mind the heart naive, Lest I attempt and prove I dreamt A dream I need not grieve? If I miss the mark, I can bear the shame - Love can bear the blame. So long as wind may fill my sails Shall I endure the trip Till I can say I've seen at last The face that launched my ship. And should that face eternally But once in time be seen, The sight (an end unto itself) Shall justify the means. For when at night there is no light, The moon anew in phase, Does it entail that it will fail To cause the tide to raise? If you're still in doubt, I'll restate my claim: Love can bear the blame. A table at the harvest feast That we are to attend In honor of our union's set, Our seat at either end. But all we reap of what we sow, Sweet lady, shall become A heap of dust upon its hour, And ours has just begun. Have we our feast at all increased Should we refrain to sup, As though to heed to drink our mead Would overrun our cup? If by bread alone we ourselves defame, Love can bear the blame. I poured out my heart - Get it thru your brain - Love can bear the blame.
