I try to find a reason to believe in eternal good But when I'm forced to look around and witness gray men begging It makes a bitter laugh escape that even one optimist could. The sunlight is choked here by a long shadows' vile twist reflected on the sad streets by a building weeping ice that falls like earth as meteors and cuts into my wrist And in this single mass that equals one but is many I make the resolution that there is no peace on earth the last sacred bit left on Valentines day; a time as good as any a time as good as any

The second stanza refers to a skyscraper. The first line of the third stanza means that the 'single mass' of people are many people but act like one, doing the same repetitive things. The second line of the third stanza draws inspiration from the 6th stanza of Longfellows' Christmas Bells.
