Yesterday's Echoes

Thunder cracks,

muted behind torrents

of water.

A tempestuous waterfall,

heavy and charged

with energy,

bouncing off the ground

to land with flair next to

white, pea-sized stones.

A summer storm...

Every jagged streak

of lightning

another question,

a search for calm in the midst

of extreme conditions

that leave me

bruised

and shaking

without the power

to escape.

The stones grow larger,

crashing into my face,

now wet with fear.

My breath falls

unsteady and broken.

A mind in turmoil...

As yesterday's echoes reach

across the chasm

of darkness,

I surrender

to what can never

be said.
