Pawn to e4

•|•

This is for all the marbles.

The loose marbles in our mind.

Those that rattle and roll

when we shake our head,

that drop from our ears

and chip the glass floor.

This is for a convenient kingdom.

The one on that broken hill,

kneeling like an unknown saint,

who burned hope with the witch,

and held onto a book never dared open.

Best by test than all the rest.

Bear the armor, flash the sword,

and hope for a good outcome

with the Lord.

This misguided stratagem,

putting the question to the bishop,

weakens the queenside,

leaves her skirts unguarded.

This is for all the tea in China.

The kind of tea they dump in a harbor.

It's an acquired taste,

but rest assured,

we're building a better oblivion.

Best by test than all the rest.

Bear the burden, flash the teeth,

and hope beyond hope for good luck

as we ride the crest.
