The Ghost In The Golden Cage

The year were cistern, dry deep and long

Where echoes bled and silence grew too strong

I built a ruin in the heart i kept

And swore the bitter promise that i slept

You were a rumor, dust upon the glass

A fading, perfect fracture in the past

Then in a market, choked with common light

Your laughter cleaned the memory of night

I saw you darling, whole and unafraid

A cruel relief, a debt that must be paid

Your eyes, still brown, burned the lie away

The lie that I had lived without your day

But time, the artisan had not been kind

It hollowed me and left a husk behind

You are the gold the shadow clings upon

The blinding sunrise that demands the dawn

And now I know the darkness in my hand

Is not the sorrow I could understand

But the unholy urge to take the key

And lock you inside the wreck of me

The love is found, yes, sharp stark and true

But it's a poison now, distilled from you

I can't touch you without breaking clean

I am the wreckage, you the coming scene

So, go forget the shadow that you found

The dead lives, but only underground

My love is now the coffin that I keep

And when I bury you, my love, I cannot weep

for those who learnt to weep in silence for the heart that didnt care to look back
