surface theory

we become each other’s ground

by what we let rest in us

you place something heavy in me

i become the shape of it

for a while

then you lift it

and i stay curved

as if the weight

had learned me

this is the physics

of the almost-touching

i am the table

where your thought

learns to be still

you are the wall

that my silence

leans against

we form around each other

like water

around stone

like stone

around absence

the most human thing

is to become the surface

where another

can recognize

their own edge

and stay

where something

almost

begins
