I Cannot, For the Life of Me, Remember

Up the path, I traveled On an old, slouching hill Though the truth had been unknown To what it would reveal Time seemed to slither Through deceit as I wavered My confusion leaving my mind tired, and unbidden One plain stone after another Surely, all I had seen Though there really was no telling As if I‘d tread within a dream Steps overlapped like the shadows Left and right, all the same For where I had been was not one path But many, individuals erased The day gave but once Though countless nights I had surrendered And whatever my previous purpose Was forgotten, whispered in the wind
