Between Fate and Goodbye

Meeting you was fate—

a quiet crossing written by unseen hands.

Becoming your friend

was a choice I made without hesitation.

But loving you…

that was never my decision.

It grew in the silence,

in the spaces between our words,

until my heart chose you

without asking me.

I was someone who loved being alone,

who found peace in solitude—

until you made my world feel incomplete.

For the first time,

I longed for someone else’s presence

more than my own.

If you would just say the word,

I am ready—

to face every hardship,

every storm that will come and will be.

Only if…

you choose me too.

Why is “hello” so easy to say,

yet “goodbye” feels so heavy?

Perhaps because in every beginning

we do not yet know what we will lose.

You never miss someone this much

until the moment comes for separation—

until the weight of unsaid words

rests upon trembling lips.

A haze of memories lingers

within my willow mind,

baffled by your fondness—

for you were my sweetest solace.

O, how pitiless the heavens can be,

if destiny stands near, yet time denies.

Perhaps we were fragments of fate,

meant to meet,

but never to remain.

O, be not kinder to all—

but me alone,

for I am lost within your warmth.

And if fate be kind, just once—

let it be you

to whom I am bound.

But if not…

then let this be my quiet truth—

Between every “hello” and “goodbye,”

I gave you a piece of my heart

I will never take back.

A.K.
