Isn’t That What Friends Are for?

I was drowning

And you didn’t notice

Didn’t see the terror in my eyes

Couldn’t see through my clumsy

“I’m fine”s

While I hyperventilated

Isn’t that what friends are for

To know you

And care enough

To not believe you

I’ll always be there for you

I’d swear

On all the secrets

I’ve carried for you

Now it feels like I’m alone

Can’t open up

And lean on you

Because I can’t

Stand on my own anymore

And so I’ll fall alone

But while I’m falling

I have to figure out

A way to stay with you

Because I still care

And I don’t want to hurt you

But

Sometimes

I

Just

Can’t

And I’m

But I’ll hold up the mask

Something I never thought

I’d have to do with you

And I’ll hide

All that you can’t see

I feel really bad because I’ve been going through a lot recently and it has pulled me away from a friend and I don’t think they realize and it feels really selfish.
