the *****

it never asked for light

      still

            the morning crucified it

 

by dusk

      the cross was empty

 

the crack in the glass

      ran like a vein

            toward it

                  and thinned

 

                  ‘not here’

 

when i turned it

      the threads came out clean

            no dust halo

                  no wound in the wood

 

i waited

      for collapse

 

the window held

      the pressure

            had always risen

                  from beneath

 

insisting
