ready for sparks, not for burning

Does it bother you when you see your name

across these words,

secretly tucked away

between each metaphor?

Does it bother you that these words

take an aim to your heart?

Tugging at each ventricle?

Setting fire to your atria?

Heating up your arteries?

Does it bother you that these poems

were meant for the universe to read

but for you to feel?

These were meant to be read by people

but was written to make you weak,

shatter

and

break.

It was meant for you to fall down

on your knees.

Does it bother you that these stories

reveal your antagonism

and how you can no longer

play the victim?

Does it bother you that these words

were a factor as to why you fell for me

and how it also turned out to be

the reason why you left?

Do you ache like I do?

Do you feel the heat consuming you?

I will never be sorry for sharing this pain

because you have been the arsonist

that had set my heart to flames

and my lips had been

the only known fire escape

and this,

these words are just the embers and ashes.
