The Runaway

The wind tears at my cheeks

Salty tears trailing down

And warm breaths pouring out from my lips

As I run

Silently

Across the road

Dodging a speeding car

A honk pierces through my ears

I just want the noise to stop

My gloved hands are shoved over my ears

A futile attempt

To make the world stop

I sniffle and make my way down the sidewalk

Slowing down

I’m looking for her

My happiness

My sunshine

She is my mission

She can fix this

I stop at a door

Her door

Two knocks is all it takes

For her to come running

Her warm smile shines down on me

My breathing slows

Her soft warm hands rub my cold ***** cheeks

My tears are erased

Her gentle voice caresses at my ears

My anxiety finally lifted

Allowing me to be at peace with the world

The memory I once found so calming

Is like a tear in my heart

Life is so depressing without her

No more hugs

No more happiness

And no more her

The realization hits me

All too hard

I’m alone.

Notes

This is actually based off of true events that happened to me. When I was younger, I used to "runaway" from home and go over to my neighbor's house to hang out with her, I considered her as my grandmother and a calming figure over me, a living guardian angel if you will.
