The monster

i step into a room where the light the barely breathes

and the air hums thick with the scent of fresh blood

i search

beneath the bed

inside the closet

along the trembling edges of shadow

until silence answers me

and in that silence i understand

there is only one monster here

and it is the one

standing still in the dark
