City
okirsten Jun 2010
Cars shriek in gridlock,
anger gnaws at my chest,
and I *******
in saltwater and sweat.

With wrinkles and claws,
anxiety squeals in the city
within my sanctity of
hounds-tooth and cotton.

Welling up with tears,
the sky, muggy and thick
drips and sniffles:
a heavenly tantrum.

Medicine
okirsten Jun 2010
Today
I decided to swallow
my pills all at once.
But mom told me
No,
You'll choke and die,
So I took them
one
by
one.

Music
okirsten Jun 2010
Jays paddle the clouds
of blue and orange:
oily jazz and
stark bar lines.
Musky mist sags
and wrinkles, pickled
breaths: nature's incense.

Light

The requiem of
incense and wine
suffocates and
blinds with white
and awaits joy
as the chorus
sings lies.

Caterpillars
okirsten May 2010
He was a caterpillar,
a youth, an intellect. The
air cleansed his golden locks
in the midst of humid
springtime, and the horns
sounded his spirit and
sang his name when he
was too shy to introduce
himself. Shallow footprints
followed  his path and
sweat stung his eyes and
trickled the creeks of his face.

Soul
okirsten May 2010
As we would sing
into each others'
eyes, the moon
clapped along to
our celestial beat
and our souls
danced with bodies
of stars. We
worshiped the
sun and folk
music until
we burned with
joy, the day
the world
ended.

Apathy sits in the windowsill
in a ripped jean jacket
yawning at thunderstorms.

Mediation

Constant stars
shoot odd remarks
at innocent clouds
in daylight.

The sun
mediates and
sermons with
lazy drunkenness.

Philosophy

Once
there was a tree
who shivered in
the breeze, and
thought about love
as sleet froze
its roots.

Clouds
okirsten May 2010
As I sink
through the
depths of
your bones
I sing, for

they blossom
and ring, with
vines and spires
atop ancient
cathedrals.

                      The
gargoyles grin
and I laugh
for the glass
shines in dust.

But where are
you now, as
I soar? The
clouds blind
me.

Calm

Calm breathes in the prairie,
Sunburned in dungarees,
The grasses bow at its presence.

Untitled
okirsten May 2010
Tracing constellations of
veins, blue and branching
vines of the flesh:
windy breath and
gasping air.
Stark, collapsing
bones between
cascading blood.
Thoughts crumple and
rush like quicksand,
stripping memories
of sunshine and
fireworks. Dewdrops
dampen lips and
lashes glued with
taught skin and
a hunger. Love
tags between
pines and brushes
spines and soothes.

Love plays tag
between bushes and
pine cones, with
larks and yews
laughing at dewdrops.
Sunshine explains
philosophy to widowed
bees and lonely
gnats in springtime.
