On Dreaming

don't you just hate when during a dream
you find something that was missing

and then you wake up under sunlit beams
and feel silly for such reminiscing

The City's Silent Song
kate b Mar 2013
A valley of lights

twinkling orange and white

brighten the night

with their silent song

Skyscrapers loom high

almost to puncture the sky

and a stranger might

cry for all it's beauty

But only one star

can shine through from afar

and leaves only one scar

in the brown night's purity

When you come into view

my heart beats anew

with all the love I have for you

my favorite city

Slowly you fade away

    into the clouds

    into the haze

The lights are gone,

    but I still feel warm

The scenes are gone,

but I still feel like I'm there

The people are gone,

but they left a permanent mark

Get up! Time to go!

Don't be late for work!

Even arriving a minute tardy,

Makes the boss berserk.

Briefcase, yes

Clamor on to the bus

Cup of Joe, got it

Manila folder, find it!

Gee, the boss'll make a fuss

When you think you're in the clear,

Uh oh... rush hour is here!

Stuck behind a geezer, ******!

Acceleration pedal, jam it!

Titan

High above

         Over looming skylines

Feeling like a titan

         In real time

For once

         Conquering over streets below

Watching everything

         Come and then go

On once hand

         Your view is limitless

On the other

        You're rendered powerless

Seeing how much

        Activity is around

The many, many

        Sights, smells, textures, sounds

The only thing

        Reigning above you

Airplanes on strait paths

        To make their due

An urban titan

        So limitless

Distant from the city

       So powerless

Expectations
kate b Mar 2013
The expectation of society is a choke hold on mankind

To think, to imagine that beauty is only skin deep

Beauty, its confusing, wrong guiding ways keep

For is beauty a natural sign or bought?

With makeup?

With clothing?

Is that how beauty is sought?

It's a pure tragedy

That people don't see what they need

To think beauty is like an assignment

That people grade you with their judgement

Why can't beauty be nothing more

Than to have good character in store?

You can't choose your color of skin

Being bigger isn't a sin

Of all people who want beauty

Be who you want to be

And my hopes for the future

It will show for every creature

9 Ways To Look At A Thorn
kate b Mar 2013
1.

A man hacked through the dense, thorny vines

            He was frightened

                      As he stumbled upon

                               the golden ruin

2.

A little girl joyously scanned the bush if blackberries

As she reached eagerly for one,

she caught a bramble on her little finger

The girl burst into tears

3.

Why must a thorn be bad?

It's the last struggle before victory.

4.

The righteous men wore laurel leaf crowns at the party in merriment

The sinner in the corner wore a crown of thorns

5.

A rose bush is bittersweet

                                               The glorious roses

             And the cruel brambles

6.

The wall was not made of stone.

A separated family could hear each other lament from either side

7.

The two roads went to the same place

                    One was paved and wide

The other was narrow and overtaken by the dense bush

8.

A weary family walked through a bed of thorns

A new family walked to their freedom.

9.**

One does not go through life,

              without

a thorn
