I met an old man in a wheelchair today
He wore simple clothes in a modest way
I watched as he wheeled this way and that
Spinning and twirling like a playful young cat
His smile was big and his eyes were alight

A stranger approached to ask  "are you alright?"
He continued his waltz and chuckled some more
"I'm dancing and laughing, who could be sore?"
She stood there puzzled and looked all around
"There is no music playing, I don't hear a sound"
Suddenly he stopped, looked her dead in the eye
His gaze was intense, an eternity passed by...
"Don't you hear it?" he asked quite concerned
She stood listening to the wind in the trees, and a fire that burned
Shaking her head puzzled and shy
"I don't hear a thing, hard as I try"

He smiled gently and embraced her hand
"Dear girl, try and understand"
"We are awash in a symphony old as time,"
"Its delicately blaring for more than mankind"

My heart was pounding as my eyes began to glisten
I felt that song, I did more than listen

That woman walked away thinking he was mad
He resumed dancing anything but sad
That moment of silence moved and inspired me
To stop filling gaps and learn how to be

Its song that can't end because it did not begin
Its a song that surrounds us but comes from within
Life is too precious to ever be bored
So I danced with that man, and I'll dance ever more!

Perspective of one
Alone I was born, alone I grew
Among the family and friends I knew
Clawing and scratching to obtain the seeds
Of the branches containing all I was told I need
I fought hard to collect and harder to keep
Illusions of happiness no matter how cheap
Through battles external but mainly within
I strove to obtain what no man could win

From under the blanket of stress and despair
The wheels were turning, I was becoming aware

Though I still resisted even harder those days
Allowing sorrow to blossom into depression and craze
New visions of life formed and displayed
How few decisions were appropriately made
I wallowed in fear of what lay before me
Continued descent? or change the story?

Damage was done in amounts quite immense
And little to work with besides my two cents
Balanced on the knife, sluggish and beaten
I took the first steps to redeem this heathen
Those movements created a spark, then a fire
Which tempered a strong and passionate lyre
Strumming the chords of my new found epic
A phoenix reborn out of a relic
Insight grows as I learn to release
Suddenly alone, but also at peace
In that peace the future grows bright
Alone in the unknown never felt so right

My gift to the dream.
Always have I watched you, never understood

You dance as though a marionette, a mere doll of wood

Yet as we dance you take the lead

following steps quite known to me however done more skillfully and with much greater speed

Through you I have lived a million lives, through me you outlived them all

Despite the choreography I begin to see the height we have to fall

The more I gaze the more I see

It is with this sight you have blinded me

This world we create eclipses another

But for the moment we see no other

We twirl around in close embrace

All the while we increase the pace

I speak of you as though a lover

While ushering others to your cover

As we stand awe inspired

Our gaze grows vigilant, never tired

Increase the beat as arrival nears

Its now the time I get the fear

Impatience slows the sands of time

Now im but a child waiting in line

Anticipation has made you great

By now I no longer wish to wait

The fear inside begins to grow

As all others have let go

Your once grand world is crumbling down

This truth continues to weigh my crown

Lost in your world of merriment

I ebb towards retirement

Like the grasshopper I have danced too long

Thus winter is about to dawn

The decision here is quite complicated

Do I finish our waltz or merely vacate it?

This dance is both my greatest accomplishment as well as my fiercest downfall

I could be known for it or not at all

Now my mind is shrouded in mist

My next step could lead over the precipice

My final thoughts are the ramblings of a buffoon

One who wants his cake but wishes to consume

I will not give up this dream of mine nor shall I give in

I shall find a way to dream my dream, but, also I shall win

— The End —
