Nathan Downey Mar 2016
She took the seasons as she left.
Autumn took refuge in her sleepy voice as she said goodbye
Her whisper like a breeze sweeping leaves across a sidewalk.
Spring had entered her step as she left the room
Guiding her towards a future full of life and far away from here,
And summer had spread across her face
For she had a smile that lit up a room brighter than the sun ever could.
All that remained was winter, leaking in through the window she had left open the night before.
And as I watched her hurry away to the bus stop
I knew that only the grey skies and cold air were mine for the taking.
