We cling to music, to poems, to quotes, to writing, to art because we desperately do not want to be alone. We want to know we aren't going crazy and someone else out there knows exactly how you're feeling. We want someone to explain the things we can't.

We talked for a while after that night.
I waited for you to ask, but you never did.

I have handled rejection before,

Then I remembered that you weren't here.
That you left.

isn't it awful when you are hurt and disappointed so often, you start to say,

How could I have prepared to love someone who doesn't love me back?

You walk by her,
the girl you've known all your life.
The one you relied on for those years past.
But she moved on and no longer wants you.
They got in her head, under her skin,
forced a mask on her and twisted her into someone you don't know.
They have taken everything from you but, you did not think they could take her.
You then realize that you were very wrong.
They didn't take her
They did worse,

They changed her.

It is said that opposites attract.
Maybe that is why we are attracted to those who are opposite of
what we need,
What we deserve.
That makes us odd creatures that are craving rejection
disguised as love.
This is a sad and cruel fate,
But then again that is--
the art of attraction.
