If you only knew
How much I really loved you
Then maybe, oh maybe,
You'd stay.
If you only knew
How much I really care
Then maybe, oh maybe,
You'd talk to me each day.
If you knew how much I loved you
Then maybe you'd be here.
If you knew how much I cared
Then maybe there'd be no fear.
If only you knew
How much I really loved you
Then maybe I'd be in your arms.
If only you knew
How much I really cared
Then maybe you'd read these yarns.
If you only knew,
My dear,
How much I really loved you
Then maybe,
Oh just maybe,
You'd stay.

The kids are in trouble
They're all the same
The only difference between them
Is in their fingerprints.
A painted facade
Masks glass hearts and porcelain dreams
Broken by the huff and puff
Of the joint between their cracked lips.
The kids are in trouble
Their eyes no longer shine
And their passion
Is gone.
They're drowning
In depression
So the only ecstasy they feel
Is the pills they're poppin'.
The kids are in trouble
They're all getting lost
They can't see the path
So I turn off the light
Cause there's more to see in the dark.

I'm sick and tired of writing all about you
About the way your eyes shine
And the skin around them crinkles when you laugh
I'm sick and tired of writing
About your smile
And the dimples that frame it
About your fingers
And how their touch is electrifying
I'm sick and tired of writing
Poem after poem
That you will never read
I'm sick and tired
Of loving you
With nothing in return.

With the bang of a starter pistol
My heart sets off
On yet another rat race
Running from broken promises
Hurdling over "just friends"
And trying to avoid strings attached
To all it's mistakes.

You've made your home
Squeezed, tightly, between my lungs
That are filled with
The smell of you.
You remain, unspoiled,
In my stomach
Floating, happily,
With the butterflies you bought me.
And you hide in the eyes
That scanned every inch of you
While filled with desire.
Here you'll stay,
Tucked away in my nostalgia.

I need the sea because it teaches me
How people come and go like the tides.
It teaches me the nature of love
When it continuously comes back to kiss the shore.
I learn, when I look at the sea,
How small we are in this world.
Still, I learn how important we small ones are
By the way tiny drops form a tsunami.
I need the sea because it teaches me
To see the depths beneath the surface.
It teaches me the nature of life.

Make it easy,
Say I never mattered.
Scream it through a loudspeaker
So the whole world hears,
And write it on your arms
So that you won't forget.
Make it easy,
Say it was a fling.
Erase the "I love you"s
So that they never show
And sweep our memories under the couch
On which we once were intertwined.
Make it easy,
Say it was a lie.
Run it up the flagpole
So you feel good inside.
Make it easy,
My dear,
And please,
Make it quick.
