A Tied Soul
Mimi Kurpier Jun 2016
I fight with two sides of me
I trip up and miss a beat
At once blind and naive
Now believes there's more to see

Two people who meet
We greet but fight to not admit defeat
You are the best but because of me
It may very well seem it's never meant to be

Sparks of fury that subdue
A rage of desire
A forbidden love that's the hue
Of a living fire

We sit we fit we hit
It off like superglue
I play I stay I'm legit
Wondering why I can't be you

You crave this brave
Life that represents you
You behave like its a rave
Proving the sky is blue

I carry this different beat
That rings and sings when around you
I might be weak and feel the heat
But when I even think of you

I'm...
A little less blue
A little more like you

It's...
A little less of this twisted reality
A little more of that perfect fantasy

That living fire that arises inside
Does in fact continue to rage on
Despite many reasons to hide
I quietly fight a soul that tries to move on

A tied soul
Stuck between me and what I can be

I Am (HIS) Human
Mimi Kurpier Mar 2016
I am human like any other
Inside a dormant fire lies
Set for a stoke or a smother
Carried through life wondering when it dies

A work in progress they say
Living isn't staged
It always ends the same way
But we can feel caged

I am human I learn I fall
I lose myself always
But no one answers my call
Until HE proved there are better days

Beyond all troubles and worries
Outside of worldly understanding
HIS name carries through all the stories
HE holds what all our hearts are demanding

I am human
A flawed feature
I am (HIS) human
A cherished creature

"This Change!"
Mimi Kurpier Mar 2016
Imagine an ant within a footprint
Like a crater it bows and weaves in mysterious ways

Life is the crater it changes it sways
It has its ins and outs
Its ups and downs

The mystery is appealing
We always try solving

We are the ant
In no way imaginable could we ever
Truly understand the footprint

Yes we have dreams and ideas
Of who this footprint belongs to
But how do we really ever know

God owns the footprint
God owns the world
Our lives are part of this crater
"This Change!"

We can embrace this mystery
We can appreciate this footprint
"This Change!"

Yes change may be terrifying
We don't know from beginning to end

Like the ant in the footprint
Its different it seems impossibly strange

Our life the usual is upset by this change

Trust that God knows best
Let your mind be at rest

The ant can fear moving forward
The ant can stay and blame mystery

Like the ant we can fear change
We can be stubborn and be in still misery

But I say take steps of faith
And believe that change is okay

(I was) Lost!
Mimi Kurpier Mar 2016
We act just fine when in reality
Our insides rage and cry
Asking desperately to be shown on the outside
We are pretenders of this reality

We lie to ourselves and say everything will be just fine
Sure everyone has secrets to hide but some just eat you up inside

How can we ask people to be honest and have integrity
When we deny ourselves the right of identity
Fear is our enemy
He whispers in our ears with frightening intensity

We tear like fabric and we shred like thread
We promise strength and dexterity
When we really can only believe in bravery

We've lost sight of our true purpose
To be like minded and act with sincerity
To love and to be loved
To uphold character and walk with God Almighty

Our true selves are hidden away like a desert oasis
The mirage of perfect living is only true in stories
But with the touch of righteousness
The grace and mercy of the loving King

We can begin again with light and prosperity
We give people hope of stronger days
Sight for brighter tomorrows
Paths for mightier ways

Take That Step
Mimi Kurpier Mar 2016
Torment and terror of a different kind
A changed breed of the unexpected you see

Life isn't fair! Why yes of course life isn't fair
Life isn't easy just because you simply wish it to be

We blame the older generation for their hatred of the unknown
We've learned to always fear the unknown
We can only believe in what we understand, right?

Wrong! Belief is a choice of faith in what is not known
Taking that leap, that first step
Embracing the darkness to shine new light

We can't expect ourselves to stray away from our problems
Wish away our mistakes or hide away from our fears

Doing the same thing over expecting different results...
That's what is tormenting and terrorizing

We must not stand idly by expecting our lives to be fulfilling
How can we, when we fear not making a decision

Take that step to make change
That leap of faith to make something great

Acknowledge the unknown and embrace it

We are Strong(ly Flawed)
Mimi Kurpier Mar 2016
Our decisions are like DNA
they tells us to run or stay

The hard times is what defines us
The weakness in us wants to take the easy way

So when times are easy people are all alike
Living life the usual taking it one step at a time

Weakness is among the strongest of us
The only difference is we don't switch decisions on a dime

We take our decisions and run with them
We understand we make mistakes like everyone

We are told that our flaws are less than desirable
That we should hide from everything we have done

Our flaws given the chance act as anchors
They can either drag us down or give us grounding

Embracing our flaws and improving upon them
We are strong and gain much from that understanding

Every Passing Moment
Mimi Kurpier Jan 2016
Feeding the past only nourishes the demons of the future

Every second is a step into a better future
and away from your troubled past

Scars are powerful reminders of life's riskiest adventures

Stand today for a stronger tomorrow

Lead By All
Mimi Kurpier Jan 2016
The least of us may very well inspire the best of us

For it may take one to lead many but it takes many to lead the one

The darkest of pasts shine forth the brightest of futures

Life Like A Fingerprint?
Mimi Kurpier Jan 2016
Imagine being born knowing exactly
Who you are, what you are meant to do
Who you belong to

Imagine a life with no doubts or questioning
No risks or risk takers
But see that's exactly what it would be

Imagine sitting down your brain tells you what to do
You act with no question about it
A system taking orders with no mind without it

We aren't robots, we aren't property
We aren't owned by a single being
So why act like we have no identity

Yes we have our own identity
But a fingerprint is but one entity

We are much more than nerves and fibers
We are human beings with endless desires

Our Dear Old Friend
Mimi Kurpier Nov 2015
Weakness is like an old friend with a surprise visit
We all wonder to ourselves why they're there

In reality we have been expecting them all along
Pretending we wouldn't see them here

They remind us of our past decisions
We try so hard to change our way

We wish they would leave and bother us no more
Making life easier but instead we want them to stay

We think our friend is just out to get us
Soon we realize they're here to remind us

Our dear old friend tells how it  is
We can't move forward without understanding what our weakness is
