Observer
Michael Stuhlman Dec 2014
Sometimes my mind escapes.
Escapes to a higher dimension.
To one where I do not partake,
simply observe.
Like a God.
Then that real He
that pulling foe gravity,
Tugging, grabbing and yanking at me.
Alas of those mighty dimensions,
only the ability to use 4 have we.

Inverse
Michael Stuhlman Dec 2014
How incredibly ignorant
    of your God
to not even consider that
    there may be

a higher power than He.

Space and time
Michael Stuhlman Dec 2014
The time we humans live despite prolonging,
is but a blink compared with that of the universe.

The distance we travel however impressive,
is but an angstrom compared with that of the universe.

The information we glean with increasing complexity,
is simple addition compared with that of the universe.

The equations we solve with many variables,
are but quadratics compared with those of the universe.

The evolution of our species however advanced,
is but a single cell compared with that of the universe.

And me, my morbid cynical observations, they
are the truths of the universe.

Morning rituals
Michael Stuhlman Dec 2014
I sit here
listening to music
with minutes to go

anytime now, I
I will have to go
and delve into the world
of swirling chaos and entropy

The ticking of my watch
reminds me that time
is always ticking

with minutes to go.

Shower
Michael Stuhlman Jun 2014
Is each drop of water
as unique as a snowflake?
I like snowflakes better.
They don't shatter on impact.
They're colder and last longer.
They don't simply run down a drain,
they collect and flirt with each other.
Only occuring in certain parts of Earth.
Designed by God's fractal equations,
not a sad mundane teardrop shape.

People
Michael Stuhlman Jun 2014
My opinions are my own,
Which we may not share.
But experiences and time
Have led me to beleive,
That people don't change.
We are who we are,
And that is all.

Time
Michael Stuhlman Jun 2014
It ages all things.
We measure and pretend to understand it.
Helps and hinders, stops and starts.
Speeds and slows, breaks and binds.
Ticks and trickles, dwindles and derives.
For some the most gifted blessing,
others a most horrifying curse.
If governs much of our universe,
from music to money, from dusk until dawn.

I often wonder who else thinks like me
    does such a person exist?
Often they think they do, however
I know this to be false...so far.

Resonance
Michael Stuhlman Jun 2014
The sound of brass
harmonizing and undulating
its warmth and harshness
all determined by each musicians mind
helped by a conductor,
and diminished by those who fail to see

The sound of strings
swelling, sad and triumphant
vibrations of comfort and tension
vibrato and dynamics combining to make perfection
bound by printed notes,
and allowed to deviate only slightly

The sound of piano
melodic and pulsating
hammers striking strings of the heart
limited by tuning and foot petals
tone defined by materials, major and minor
with beauty ever possible

First Attempt
Michael Stuhlman Jun 2014
A nightly assignment, expressing ideas unsaid.
A new tradition that may disperse may survive.
Will’s strength in question, my thoughts are taxed.
Uncertainty prevails while confidence rises and falls.

Am I correct?
