As I awake to the quiet sounds of the morning after
Where will I be
Drawn to the silence of the day beginning
What will I see
And then to my delight the sounds of children's laughter
Into the morning after

I knew that guy standing there, not long ago it seems
His smile soft upon me beaming
I knew him well as a son would know
I knew him within my eyes still gleaming
This time of the morning after

Those who stand around with smiles of such delight
As the sleep upon me lingers
They look as if I know them in sight
How do they know it's  me I wonder
I know them every single one
In the glow of this morning after

Quietly this day began, now I realize I'm surrounded
By some who were long into my past
Where am I, even now I wonder
As I look around I see that the smiles have turned to laughter
A dream that cannot last
And where is the memory of yesterday
If this is the morning after

Suddenly it comes to me as the light shines warm upon me
Not a dream at all of what I see
As I realize that these
Are the souls that went before me
And I find that yesterday was my life at end
And I find I'm bound to where I am
As this is the morning after

What spell is this I've fallen into, maybe a dream is all it is
As today passes, what I feel may go away, its power over me a memory past
When tomorrow comes I will awake to a freedom within my heart that only I will know
A freedom something I think I would rather not to last

What can I do, how do I give in as I fall for this longing taking hold
The sweetest of all dreams that I may ever know
And I wander aimlessly to this call, to this dream, this nameless thing
Never looking back, onward through life and dreams I gladly go

Drawn with every breath I take to pay heed to its call to its hold
Were I to give into its want, embrace it with all I am and all I  have
Give my heart freely and without regret, offer it for all it is
Become a part of this dream of this day, give it my heart to save

I have wandered around this thing much too long I finally see
It's there to guide me, to show me, to keep me in its throes
Capture my heart, place it with the one who truly cares
Allow this thing called love, gather it from someone who knows

And there she is, as sweet as my dreams allowed her to be
Surely an angel without wings, and all that love could ever be
What would hold me now to this mystery of my heart I've found
Is the love within this dream, my heart, that fell from her heart to me

Happy little earthworm
Excited as he can be
Invited for an outing
Was hoping he was free

An invitation sent quickly
An answer sent so soon
Reply, my family has to go as well
And we can’t stay out past noon

No worry, there is room for all
They’ll know what they’d be missing
Past noon, no problem there you see
We are only going fishing

Today this day not yet leaving
Will give way to morrow yet to be
When that day brings today upon us
Whose face tomorrow would I see

And yesterday, today long gone
Today again is yet to come
What would I ask again of morrow
If but  to see us still as one

Again today passes lonely still
My love upon your heart to stay
I take tomorrow in it's coming
A love yet deeper again today

Silent sorrows in it's coming
Gives  not a place for love to stay
Yesterday slowly in it's fading
Love stands alone for just this day

And if by chance it's slow in showing
Tomorrow in it's wayward path
And come it does, would it last forever
Linger maybe or quickly pass

On it goes in never ending wonder
And soon to be a yesterday
What is tomorrow when in coming
But a day to come and mark the way

To another day that lasts forever
To be remembered as todays gone by
And to all the days that pass with time long lasting
As tomorrow says each time in coming it's last and final sweet goodbye

So love lasts longer as time goes on
And todays do pass and go
Yesterday, tomorrow, today and now
Your the only love forever I will ever know

You loved her first before I did
You touched her soul I know
You caressed her heart brought on her smile
You set her face aglow

You led her straight into my arms
My love for her can't end
So here I am, before You now
My heart is Yours to mend

Is she there with You, does she speak of me
Could I see her but one more time
Could I kiss her lips and touch her face
Can I hold her hand in mine

Is her smile still sweet, does her love still show
Did she send a kiss for me
Oh! if I could change the way things are
In my arms that's where she'd be

Are You really sure You need her now
Can't You see I need her more
I would trade my life to You for hers
As I've told You times before

For You took her long before her time
Such sadness I've never known
There is no one in all this world
Who could feel so all alone

She was my life, my heart, sweet love
Worth more than this world of things
I would ask You please, to let me know
When she gets her Angel's wings

Deep in sadness and  regret, I take my place upon this battlefield, tarnished with the blood of so many fallen soldiers
Bothered still by the sight of the innocence on the faces of those that have fallen before me
I stand in dire regret of this terrible path so often we choose, so often we take,
I look upon those faces of the farmers, the fathers, the sons and daughters, that have fallen
All of us who will give our life for liberty,  for freedom's sake

Etched deep within me is the dread of what this day may bring, the fears I must face
The anguish that wells deep within me, and the sorrows of this day before me
What must I do today to preserve my life and the life of those that fall victim to the horrors of the hate we carry within us, the evil that man can do, also the fear I will instill in those I meet in battle today
And so I wonder
Who will fall prey within the sights of this weapon I carry
Who will be the first to fall before me, to die by the evil within my hand

That very thought brings me not even close to dreams, for the dreams
Go farther still with each passing day, and longer in their coming with the passing of those that follow
Nightmares in the making take their place, bring me closer to that one I would call enemy
To that farmer,  the father, sons and daughters of my enemy, those I will face in battle today
Nightmares to make me stronger, help me forget the evil I must do
The fears I must face
The haunting sickness that drives me on into the night to face the nightmares of my dreams

The waking of a new day  finds me still within this nightmare ever drawn to this place of death
Ever vigilant in my quest to defend my country, my honor, my life
Trained to do what must be done, forbidden to show compassion to those enemies buried deep
Within the hatred of my mind
No mercy, do not hesitate, bring quick to the shoulder my weapon of choice, the evil to do my bidding
Take the life of the one who stands in anger before me, notice not the fear upon his face

And for me
Face not the fear within me, show no mercy, show no tears, be quick and true in my aim
Be sure that no one makes it past my path
As I stand in wondering why, what brought us to this evil within us
What keeps us here, so deep in the sorrow of the pain we bring

Who will fall before me, Who will be my first
In that instant I see movement in the distance, I gaze upon the shadow of this enemy mine
And quick I am to react to his sighting, ready I am to take his life
And yet I stand in wonder of who he is
Is he farmer, is he father, son or daughter, is he also lover of freedom same as  I

Barely the sound reaches me, as the pain bares grimace  upon my face
Slowly I fall prey to the agony and pain of this terror of death
I rest to the ground but a moment as I feel the warmth of the life blood easing from my wound

Wounded deeply I feel, as I notice the shadow of the one who took this toll upon me
Closer he comes
Proud he must surely be, as I realize that soon I will see the victory upon his face, Soon I will see the hatred we share etched within his eyes and embedded deep within his heart,  he comes ever nearer to me
And in my amazement and wonder' why do I see a face of sorrow before me, why does he shake so

Why the tears falling down his cheeks, why the sadness at what his has done
Gently he takes me into his arms of comfort, cradles me yet closer to him
Regret deep within him at what he's done

Ashamed I am at what I forced him to
Bitter I am, that I fell prey to the hatred within me
To the hatred within us all
Sorrowful I am of its hold upon me
Saddened at the evil I have done

Just then
As darkness comes slowly to my eyes his words fall meaning upon my ear
Please forgive me what I have done, please forgive me, is all I hear
As his hand takes hold to my wound to slow the life force fading from me
Please forgive me for my fear
His words echo deep within my heart
As I wonder again, what brought us to this place of shame
Where now is the anger that came so easily, the hatred, and the fear
Replaced I feel by the shame deep within my soul
For what I did to this gentle man before me

Sadness at what I forced him to
Gladdened not by the toll I put upon his soul
Time moves slowly, faintly I fall within the darkness of light fading

At that very moment darkness takes me total to its power
The faintest Heavenly light touches me, and the pain is gone, the fear is remiss
The tears fade gently from my face As the burden of shame is lifted from me

And in a silent whisper
I form the words of forgiveness upon my lips
As this soldier brushes away the tears of shame from his face
Just then his smile of relief takes hold

As the Hand of Heaven reaches for me, it brushes gently the shoulder
Of the soldier at my side

Forgiveness comes to those who ask
As forgiveness will brush away the wounds upon the soul
And as my final breath whispers past my lips

Forgiveness leads me home
Written in honor of all the heroes who have died in the defense of freedom

Pretty little bluebird, smiling
Soaring in the big blue sky
Today he finally has his turn
This day he will learn to fly

Excitement overtakes him
As he gains the speed to soar
His feathers flowing in the breeze
As he fears to fly no more

Up and down, high and low
As fast as he can go
The fun he’s having for now, it seems
There’s something else to know

He must have overlooked it
As he learns to fly first hand
The thing that comes most needed
Is to know just how to land
