The campus was all but silent
Rushing water, whistle of the wind
Unrhythmic, the two untrained melodies
Yet they seem to form a single song
The grass is all uniform
Shape and size they are all the same
But alas they are unique
Some carry strong patches of brown
Deep into the shallow roots
Some with scattered leaves
And little pink flowers
Autumn is approaching

So this is normal living
Not wanting to end it all
Not wanting to forget it all
It doesn't feel right

This is what happiness feels like
Filtered
Uninformed
It is false
Is it
Nonexistant

Like wiping the dust off of an old book
Skimming through the age old pages
I have been here before
I know of things not yet happen
Knowing the ******, rise, and fall
I stay in contempt,
This is a safe place
Papers with extra bends and folds
Well written chapters
I do not wish to leave
This is my safe place

The truth is
I actually
Hate myself
And my many
Regrets haunt me
My mistakes
Have formed
What I am today
And I'm sorry
For being so oblivious
To the obvious
I rethink about
Past times
Times when things were much simpler

Nine to five
Cheesy radio
Choked neck tie

This is my prime
Enjoy it kid
Matt McClinton Jun 2013
the truth is
i miss you
though our
eyes meet often

forgive me for
showing weakness
i am only
a foolish man
