Mary Lee May 2012
The sun gives way to its shining counterpart.
The stars peek through; a romantic glistening spread across a navy canvas.
The sounds of summer fill the space between heaven and earth.
The orchestra of insects and vehicles and passersby is the most talented on earth.
The harmonies are enough to push anyone over the edge and into peace and comfort.
It seems a shame to sleep the gorgeous night away.
A time so full of overwhelming beauty ignored by so many.

He smells like chlorine,
like a lake.
I want to jump in,
submerge myself.
He is sweet and satisfying,
like your favorite ice cream
on the hottest day of the year.
He is funny
like a child
providing cheap thrills.
He is lovely
like a gorgeous autumn day,
so perfect it leaves you breathless.
They say there are plenty of fish in the sea,
but this one's mine
and I am happy with my catch.
You

You
You
(What we had)
(What we did)
(Shared)
(Wanted)
(Believed)
(Said)
(Thought)
were a lie.

Every touch
Every word
(Glimpse)
(Breath)
(Laugh)
(Tear)
(Kiss)
was an act.

An intricate play
for you to get what you wanted.
How does that make you feel?
