Settling
Mallory Knox Jul 2012
We can’t take it back
No we can’t take it back
We’ve been here once before

In the dead of winter
I know it’s not there
As we crawl along searching for what’s gone

The white noise
It’s closing and it’s closing
Evacuate and follow procedure
Another stop, another mistake
Step back and watch it go
In the back most window forlorn

I’ve been chasing cars
Through the runnings of your mind

We’ve been treading unmarked territory
Looking into windows of what was once glory
Settling into the soul stained glass
To tell stories of unidentified faces

Forgotten
Mallory Knox Jul 2012
Don’t you tell me this is real
After all the things we said
You told me I was a mistake
Well for you I never did feel

Yet these scenes repeat in my head
Those days we never got out of bed
Movies playing without interruption
Where it all started on the couch

The calls during the night
Thinking twice to pick up the phone
To you it wasn’t fair
Think about it, it was my turn
Then I’d say hello
And just like that everything was gone

For quite a while I said I’d make it work
I ignored your suspicions, accusations and lies
You thought you were in the lead
To me it was all just a game

Those long night train rides
Sounds I wish I’d never made
You never did give me the key

So now you say she’s not the one
And he’s exactly what you say he is
And you tell me she’s beautiful
That I’m wrong
You swear you’re done
It’s been four times said before

But I remember those walks
The sand you promised was ours
The rain against our skin
All those crazy things you said
I’m left sitting here
Waiting for you to make it clear

Broken
Mallory Knox Jul 2012
Slowly it comes, intercepting thoughts
I could have sworn it was you
I was told not to believe
Just leave he said
We can’t ever know the truth
Sudden interruptions, falling off the edge
Just close it up and try again
You never really knew how to begin

Like a fire it burns
What was on top would never return
Moving of the sheets, an absent entity
Reaching towards nothing, the need to withdraw
Happening again it must be real
The silence begs to differ and it’s time
Minutes go by to never return

And in the night it shines through
What we swore was never there
Reality becomes blurred and we see clearly
I know that you’re there
Just bring me back to you

Previous experience learn from my mistakes
If only it were worse with a witness
But now I’m alone and I know
Never was it impossible
My perception is not what it was
The ghost of you it lingers
Broken in pieces I remain

— The End —
