Eternal

Twilight gives way to darkest night.
Lit only by the sparkle of stars.
Keeping the past alive for the future.

To Live
MadHatter66 Mar 2016
Your eyes called me to myself.
Your shelter healed my soul.
Even while my heart was breaking.

Life
MadHatter66 May 2016
My soul craves the breath of the wind on my face, and the sound it makes when it rushes by me and rustles the trees.

My soul thirsts for the ocean and the sight of the sun sparkling like diamonds upon the dancing water. The sounds of the waves kissing the shore and rushing out again.

My soul lusts for the green spaces where grass very softly touches my feet and flowers dance with the bees and butterflies, enticing the air with the scent of jasmine and rose.

My soul is nourished by the warmth of the sun that lights my way through all of this wonder.

My soul lies peacefully under the gentle moon, blanketed by twinkling stars from ancient worlds.
Not sure if this is finished yet or not.

Song of the Seasons
MadHatter66 Oct 2015
I live in winter where everything sleeps.
Time is as silent as the falling snow.
Cold wind sweeps through trees so bare- I have nowhere to go.
Resting 'til life green and new stirs from its sleep.
The earth awakens me.

I live in spring where things begin and the frost replaces the dew on the wild violets. Rain sprinkling down in silvery threads giving life to the earth.

I live in summer where the endless golden sun shines upon the earth.  The scent of honeysuckle floats on the breeze,
like the sweetest of all my dreams.

I live in autumn with its crisp cooling air.
The towering trees take on a golden glow as they light the way to the fruits the earth has grown.
A revised version of poem I have published elsewhere.

Until
MadHatter66 Jun 2015
You left me in the dark.
I drink from the blood of my own heart.
It is filled with pain after being crushed and smeared upon the walls.

I had to forgive you since you have given me back my life.
Now I can never tell you

We knew it could never be serious.
There were so many things against us... and not enough for us

Still we were drawn together like magnets.
It took too much energy to stop it.
so we didn't

I knew it could never be serious.
But I fell in love with you anyway.
Isn't that serious?

After all this time I still sit here with what's left of my heart in my hands. The tears that fall upon it keep it alive until it is ready for someone new

The sound of your voice is home.
Tell me you have always loved me.
Kiss me like it is the last time you'll see me and say goodbye...

The sea at night beckons to me
So much swirling darkness
It could carry me away forever

In Dreams
MadHatter66 May 2015
In dreams I can do anything, I dine with wizards and dance with kings.
I sit high in the trees and the birds sing just for me.
I fly with them but I don't need wings.
Soaring over the ocean, I can land anywhere;
Because in my dreams I can walk on air.
Always you would be with me–In dreams I can do anything.

A Thousand Days
MadHatter66 Apr 2015
The weight of a thousand days presses down upon my head and on my heart. But it is too late. I have already committed myself to life.

I want to live forever...why? I wish I could remember.
All the while the weight of a thousand days presses down upon my head and on my heart.

I am tired and in despair, but there are no tears.
I have already committed myself to life.

I look for today and hope that it is strong enough, for the weight of a thousand days pressing down upon my head; and on my heart.

Stagnation
MadHatter66 Aug 2015
Somehow years of working had frozen them.
Forgetting the meaning.
Worn and faded they keep to themselves
While they lose the memories they never make

Worn
MadHatter66 Aug 2015
These old sheets are like the remnants of our life together.
Mismatched, torn, and stained.
I just want to move on and get new ones.

Voices on the Wind
MadHatter66 Sep 2023
The wind blew and I heard a thousand voices.
Laughing, crying, telling the tales of time.
This is an old verse I wrote many years ago.
