It took me a while to understand what
I'm here for
Had i not met you at the fifth floor
I'd still be thinking my life is *******

You gave me a new meaning
It felt as though I was dreaming
I fell in love with your singing
When all you were doing was mingling

You brought out the woman in me
It was clear for all to see
You gave me the b of the d
When all i wanted was to be free

Promises were made at the altar
Hands were held in laughter
Love was made after
We both liked it softer

We later outgrew each other
You then found another
You introduced her to your mother
I married your brother
This poem was inspired by me thinking to myself about how complicated matters of the heart can sometimes be and i decided to describe this thought with a rhythmic sense.

Isn't it queer how a mere *****
Can leave a bitter taste of
Pain and agony in your mouth
It is only when you've walked this road

That you realise that even the water
That runs from your eyes
When swallowed
Is salty and distasteful

Funny how the bible neglected the
parable of emptiness
Perhaps that is why
Your nights are coldest
When you are covered in thick blankets

You now despise the colour red
For it now reminds you
Of what your heart once was
Before loneliness coloured it black
Like the robes of a widowed woman

You have rejected the ocean
Because you know
That no matter how many layers of
makeup you may wear
You will never be as beautiful as her

It is as though happiness
Is a foreign language you yearn to
learn
Forgetting that even the most dificult
tutorial has its basics

Isn't it queer how a mere *****
Can beat for one last time
While you starting to familiarise
yourself with the scent of hope in the air

And then
Before you know it

It is the end of you
This poem was inspired by the fact that one day i thought to myself that it is so profound how the heart is just a mere ***** but at the same time, it holds a great capacity to which it can either break us or mould us.

I attempted to wear the shoes of her
heart
But my feet were too tiny to fit into a
size so great

I was told the true definition of a
woman was greatness

But it was the smell that oozed from
her shoes that told me that
Even the greatest trees
Sometimes do fall

I have never been one to observe
many things but when i took a closer
look,
I noticed that these shoes had holes in
them

It was the ground she walked on,that
testified that only she could wear those
shoes and walk tirelessly as though
they have no holes

I polished these shoes
But it was realisation
Who whispered in my ear
And said

Even if you were to polish them until
they looked new
You would never be able to walk a mile
in her shoes

She is a woman!
This poem was inspired by the superpower we have as women. The fact that a woman can carry any burden and still remain strong and powerful.

You
You were attracted to her beauty that
was more than skin deep
Not knowing that even her *******
would one day
Fall like the walls of Jericho

You picked the best flower in
the garden
Not knowing that even the prettiest
rose has thorns

Her colour,being the passport
to paradise
Was the reason you clothed yourself in
inferiority

Not knowing that even her kind when
exposed to the sun,
could change colour like disguised
chameleons

Her walks, hips swayed left and right
Had you conformed to western
beliefs,forsaking your clan names and
rejecting your true identity

Not knowing that even walks can be
practiced
You toss and turn at night for your
blackness keeps lingering like a bad breath

Short to say
You have forgotten who you are!
This poem was inspired by my encounter with an interracial couple. The guy was black and the lady was white. What really struck me was the guy's submissiveness towards her almost undermining himself because she's white. I then decided to make a sheer highlight of the fact that historical background might have created white supremacy but that doesn't mean that as a black person you should belittle yourself. We are all human and flawed in some way so we should embrace ourselves.
