Nothing
Lillian Braswell Apr 2012
We take for granted
The sound of nothing;
The gentle touch of velvet
Against our bruised folds of flesh;
The air heavy
With nothing but air,
Making all the more eerie
The stoplights that change,
For cars that aren't there.
How I love
Such sweet midnight air.

Trapped
Lillian Braswell Apr 2012
The city seduces with serpentine sounds
Restless souls stuck to the ground
Gossamer dreams sequestered
Behind the concrete walls
Scream so loud
But not even the sky can hear
Mournful sounds absorbed
By synthetic stone.

Lonely Words
Lillian Braswell Apr 2012
My words are lonely
Hunkered in the dark
Upon the lines to which they are drawn

Loving words
Observant words
Written in gold and in blood

Dismissed and denied
Made refuse among the files
Scared and broken

Paled by the shadows
Made blind by absent light
My words are left to fade

How I wish
You could feel and love
My words like I mean them.

Beautiful
Lillian Braswell Apr 2012
You are beautiful
Even though your eyes are lopsided
And your tummy is a bit bigger
Than the ones in the magazines
It seems you are perfect

Your hands move
As if you had wings tied to your wrists
Every step that moves your hips
In sultry dance
Makes my hands tingle
In wanting to hold them close

Your voice is warm caramel
That drips from your mouth
And paints your shapely lips in honey
Tugging at my soul
And pulling my voice from my gut

To express how truly

Very beautiful

You are.

Silly Words
Lillian Braswell Apr 2012
I glimpse you in fragments
pieces
portions
and parts

And every special view of you
Stirs this fire
Within my gut

I love every little bit of you
lips
elbows
and toes

And all these little snippets of you
Caught in a mirror sitting on my desk
Make me write silly little words

Arrange them in lines

And call them poetry.

Do Not See My Skin
Lillian Braswell Apr 2012
I do not want you to see my skin
Don't look into my eyes and see that they are green
Do not look at my mouth and see that my lips are pink
I do not want you to see my skin

I want you to see my soul

Think of me as translucent
A vaporous body
Reverberating with voice

See me not as a vision,
An image absorbed by your irises,
But hear me as a feeling
A passion
Loud sound with something to say

Take me as a fire in your heart
And stand up and shout one day.
